St. Charles County is part of the St. Louis Metropolitan Area and got its name from Italian cardinal, Charles Borromeo. In 1812 the county was organized and today 360,000 residents call St. Charles County Home. This county is one of the fastest growing, wealthiest and most conservative in the state.
There are a number of recreational activities to enjoy in this county and a variety of historic sites to explore. One of highlights is The St. Charles Historical Society. This organization and its archives are located at the Old Market House on Main Street. St. Charles County has a continental climate that brings a change of weather with the changing seasons. Ninety degree days here make for clear skies while being outdoors fishing or hiking. These temperatures make a well maintained air conditioning unit a must for residents.
